PWA presents a series of workshops during the year on topics supporting and educating women professionally.

For the month of October, the workshop topic is ” Mastering Professional networking – Learn to love networking! ” Networking is an essential aspect of business and building a career, from recent graduates to experienced, executive-level professionals. Meeting face-to-face allows you and your meeting partner to showcase your personality, which is an incredibly important part of any relationship.

During this conference you will learn techniques such as ways to open the conversation with a new contact, learning and memorizing your elevator pitch or short sentence or two that capture your value proposition.
You will understand how to Mimic and reflect people’s subtleties; reading body language; asking relevant and well-thought-out questions and precious tips on using social media to open doors and get job interviews.

Speakers

Sile O’Broin
Transformational coach

Sile was born in Italy and grew up with three siblings.
Her educational journey tooks her to India, Ireland, Spain, China, and the UK, where eventually she earned an honours degree in international marketing and languages (French and Spanish) and later achieved a 110/110 cum laude MSc in International Cooperation, Finance and Development.

Her passion for global experiences led her to work in over 24 countries, including a remarkable project funded by the European Commission in the now infamous Wuhan, China.

She has honed her communication skills in a variety of roles with all three Rome-Based Agencies, most recently in FAO at the Office of Innovation. Beyond work, you’ll find her in a milonga, dancing tango, trekking in picturesque landscapes, or exploring new horizons, whenever possible.

Silvia Carnini Pulino
Director, Frank J. Guarini School of Business, John Cabot University

Silvia holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business and has over 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship and social innovation.

She began her career in the newly formed Investment Banking division of the Bank of Boston in Buenos Aires, the largest and oldest foreign bank in Argentina, continuing her education at J. Henry Schroder Wagg in London.

She then moved onto an entrepreneurial path that saw her found and lead Gammatel, a Boston- based telecommunications company. After a stint as a vice president at ThermoLase, a multinational technology company based in the United States, she traveled around the world and then settled in Rome where she consulted with start-up companies.

At John Cabot, she served as chair of the business administration department for five years. She also coordinated the Center for Career Services for three years and currently directs the JCU Institute for Entrepreneurship.

In 2010 she was awarded a Wales University Teaching Scholarship for excellence in teaching.
In addition to her position at John Cabot Silvia is also the Chair of the board of directors for Teach for Italy,  a non-profit organization that works to strengthen Italian public schools starting from contexts where the challenges linked to educational poverty are greatest.
