IWD 2025 STEM scholarship recipient: Francesca De Angelis
As soon as I was born, my parents placed me in a blue crib covered in stars. When I was three, they gave me a Chicco calculator. That's how my relationship with the sky began.
Every summer we went to my aunt's house, where we spent evenings gazing at the sky. I was enchanted by the shooting stars, which seemed to illuminate my head. Over time, this world grew closer and closer, and I welcomed it with open arms, until it became a part of me.
In fourth grade, I received a book by Margherita Hack titled "Why Don't Stars Fall on Our Heads?": that's when my journey truly began. In elementary school, I loved making posters about space and listening to the book the teacher read to us, "Martino on Mars," so much so that I bought a similar one of my own. In middle school, I began to learn about mathematics, which began to fascinate me more and more, so much so that I chose a high school specializing in science.
And it was there that these two loves took concrete form in a discipline that won my heart: physics, which became my constant.
I dream of a future in research: sleepless nights to understand, discover, search for a solution within an equation, and then shout "Eureka!" to the world. I would like to contribute to the world of science and collaborate with as many people as possible, sharing knowledge, curiosity, and dreams.
I plan to use the scholarship to pay for part of my tuition and books for my first year of physics-based university.
Thank you for this acknowledgment and help for my STEM studies.
