RESKILLING REVOLUTION

“It is important to have a vision, and not let it go.” – Özlem Türeci Co-Founder BioNTech, scientist and physician

Dear PWA Members, Partners, and friends,

Women can be great leaders, Özlem Türeci is a role model, she is not just a scientist but also a physician, an entrepreneur, and a leader in the global health sector. In 2020, she co-founded a company that developed the first approved RNA-based vaccine against COVID-19, which came as a much-needed moment of hope in a year of unprecedented crisis. Right now more than 1,300 people from over 60 countries currently work at BioNTech, and more than half of them are women.

When rethinking the future of work for women, the reskilling revolution needed to face automation. According to Mckinsey & Company, roughly 40 to 160 million women will need a transition across occupations and skill sets by the year 2030 to stay employed. Technology and digitalization have been moving forward and were accelerated by the pandemic.

PWA believes that women have a unique opportunity to lead this long-overdue transformation. Our core activities focus on empowering women to thrive through continual transformation. We believe in encouraging each other and supports women to play a more active role in the digital era across the professional community in all industries, by advancing careers, fostering alliances, and preparing the current and next generation of professionals.

Women definitely have to improve their digital skills to be able to thrive in the coming decades. With economic growth coming from the tech companies such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Tesla, and Microsoft, it is vital to have women’s participation in #technology, but sadly there is a digital gender gap in this crucial sector. We have been forced to rethink and innovate ourselves, which has developed our #digital relationship.

I believe that technology is a cross-cutting element in our life and success will be when the inclusion of women comes into reality in all policies, including when they are integrated into the production of the well-being of our society. Investing in comprehensive, carefully targeted training programmes in digital technologies will give women reskilling and upskilling opportunities to accelerate.

Last month we’ve learned about building resilience in the organization and the individual is the key to success. This includes prioritizing well-being, clarifying goals, cultivating empathy, creating psychological safety being active in a community like the Professional Women’s Association. Tonight we will find out how to shape success through effective communication in the digital world

With the combined forces of technology and globalization, there’s no better time to transform our current way of life into one with more economic gender inclusivity!

Sincerely,
Gerlie Saura
