Successful start-ups by thriving women

As our cover girl of the month, Sponsorship Director Cecilia Bersani very well put it in her interview, today’s crippled societies can raise up and improve only if women are in charge. PWA prides itself in empowering women since 1992 and we firmly believe that a person – regardless of gender – can reach any goal she or he sets, if sustained in the correct way. This is why we organize our monthly Conferences and ConneXions and offer Mentoring programs and prestigious Scholarships at local Roman universities: to give our women an inspiring environment where to grow, learn, network and thrive.

Start-ups are an incredible proof of where efficient R&D, marvellous ideas and believing in oneself can get you.

There are hundreds of vigorous, exciting examples of business realities that in very little time have reached incredible results, both by tangible as well as intangible measures. And here is the great news: according to the Boston Consulting Group, businesses founded by women ultimately deliver higher revenue—more than twice as much per dollar invested—than those founded by men, making women-owned companies better investments for financial backers.

Hummustown is a recent, local food start-up, the brain-child of Shaza and Loma Saker, two Syrian women based in Rome, who wanted to give refugees from their home-country a chance to work and thrive in a new culture, sharing an important part of the heritage with the local community.

We are delighted to welcome Shaza and Loma to share their story.

Be inspired,
Valentina
