PWA at the Camera dei Deputati for “Women, Peace and Security”

News, networking

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Professional Women’s Association of Rome (PWA Rome) was invited to a conference at the Camera dei Deputati on “Women, Peace and Security” that included a roundtable discussion involving different players from the political, military, diplomatic and non-profit arenas. Discussions revolved around Resolution 1325 adopted in 2000 by the UN Security Council, which reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction. We had the opportunity to meet and hear the personal story of Lamya Haji Bashar, Yezidi survivor of ISIS slavery and recipient of the Sakharov Prize. Her message: no revenge, just justice! Exactly the message to expect when women are involved in peace-keeping exercises!
